Collector Crypt is turning crypto’s RWA debate into a consumer stress test: randomized card packs, USDC sellbacks, physical redemption, and CARDS incentives are producing activity outside the tokenized Treasury model crypto usually uses to sell RWAs.

The CARDS ticker moved through crypto circles on X after Arthur Hayes amplified it on June 23. That social heat explains attention; value, sustainability, and durable collector demand still rest on operating behavior.

The operating data is harder to ignore. On June 24, DeFiLlama’s Collector Crypt dashboard showed $60.98 million in annualized fees and revenue; $15.15 million over 30 days; $4.16 million over 7 days; and $142.39 million in 30-day DEX volume.

DeFiLlama also breaks down pack sales, marketplace transactions, and pack buybacks, making the activity easier to inspect than in most consumer crypto apps.

Pump Fun revenue slows as Collector Crypt’s $5.1M card-pack week reshapes Solana’s consumer loop

Pump.fun is cooling as Collector Crypt posts a $5.1 million week and CARDS draws fresh attention on Solana.

Jun 19, 2026 · Gino Matos

Those figures give Collector Crypt a real usage case. They also demand a different kind of scrutiny.

DeFiLlama’s general definitions treat fees as user-paid protocol fees and revenue as the protocol-retained subset, while Collector Crypt’s protocol page further defines its own fee and revenue metrics around pack sales, marketplace activity, and pack-buyback adjustments. Dashboard revenue remains an unaudited operating signal.

Can a consumer-RWA app keep users paying for real assets once the incentive and attention cycle has cooled?

Card packs become the RWA interface

Collector Crypt’s official site describes the platform as a bridge to real-world collectibles, allowing users to digitize their collections and trade them.

Its docs make the loop more concrete: users can purchase mystery packs, open randomized NFTs, see live machine information, and use buyback endpoints tied to USDC.

The same documentation also explains why the product sits in a more complicated corner of RWA than tokenized Treasuries.

Collector Crypt’s gacha API supports pack purchase, random NFT opening, and sellback mechanics. Its VRF documentation supports verifiable randomness and live-weight claims.

Its shipping API describes a redemption path for physical delivery of underlying cards through a submit, pay, and burn flow.

That is real-world asset infrastructure, but the user behavior is closer to a collectible arcade than to an institutional collateral market. The asset is a card. The action is opening a pack.

The liquidity path can include an immediate USDC sellback or secondary trading. The risk spans odds disclosure, card valuation, custody, redemption, incentives, and the token within the ecosystem.

CryptoSlate has already covered how Collector Crypt’s card-pack week changed Solana‘s consumer revenue conversation. The category-level question now is how much of that activity survives after attention shifts.

If consumer RWA usage is arriving through gacha mechanics, the sector’s most energetic retail loop may carry a risk profile that institutional RWA buyers rarely face.

The best case for Collector Crypt is simple: consumer RWA often sounds abstract until users pay to interact with real assets.

Collector Crypt gives users a concrete object, a game-like opening experience, secondary-market liquidity, and a possible physical redemption path. DeFiLlama’s fee and volume data show that the loop has generated measurable on-chain activity.

That makes it different from much of the broader RWA sector. CryptoSlate’s prior RWA coverage has framed tokenization growth around Treasuries, money-market funds, credit, and assets that often sit outside active DeFi usage.

RWA tokenization nears $30 billion, but DeFi is capturing only a fraction

Only $2.47 billion of nearly $30 billion in tokenized RWAs is active in DeFi, showing how compliance rails still limit open-market use.

May 18, 2026 · Gino Matos

Collector Crypt is smaller than the institutional market, yet it is more visibly consumer-facing.

The weaker case is just as direct. A pack-opening economy can look healthy even as attention, buybacks, and rewards rise together.

The dashboard can show activity while leaving unresolved how much demand comes from collectors who want the underlying cards, how much comes from traders rotating through the loop, and how much comes from users chasing incentives or social proof.

Float and custody decide the quality of usage

That distinction is central to the CARDS debate. As of press time, CryptoSlate’s coin page shows a CARDS price of around $0.27 per token, up 66% over the last month but down 13% in the last week. It has a market cap of roughly $111 million, a 24-hour trading volume of roughly $22.8 million, a circulating supply of roughly 416 million, and a total supply of 2 billion.

That spread turns float, unlocks, and market cap into risk variables instead of a stable valuation base. If users are buying packs for cards and redemption, CARDS is one part of the ecosystem.

If attention shifts toward the token and rewards, the loop can become more reflexive.

The physical card is what keeps Collector Crypt inside the RWA conversation. It is also where the hardest consumer questions sit. A user can own an on-chain representation, trade it, or seek physical delivery through the documented redemption flow.

The dashboard leaves the hardest off-chain questions unanswered: who holds the card, how grading or insurance disputes are handled, how redemption delays are resolved, and how much value actually leaves the platform as card ownership instead of being recycled into more pack openings.

A June 11 Solflare and Collector Crypt release about Solflare Packs underscores the risk split.

It describes randomized packs, odds shown before purchase, 18+ gating, and language classifying the packs outside financial products and investment offerings. It also separates Solflare from responsibility for sourcing, fulfillment, grading, storage, and redemption.

Those disclaimers are useful because they say the quiet part out loud about consumer RWA. The experience can be on-chain, but the trust chain reaches into warehouses, shipping processes, grading standards, partner interfaces, and buyer behavior.

The regulatory analogy also differs from tokenized Treasuries. The New York Attorney General’s February action against Valve focused on paid randomized rewards with monetary value and cash-out paths in a gaming context.

For Collector Crypt, that kind of enforcement attention is a risk signal for paid randomization with resale value. The current source set supports that point as an analogy for platform design, separate from any regulator accusation against the project or its partners.

Retention is the signal to watch

Collector Crypt has already cleared one hurdle that many consumer crypto apps rarely reach: visible activity that can be tracked outside the project’s own marketing.

DeFiLlama’s protocol page, the official gacha and redemption docs, the CARDS market feed, and the social activity around pack partners all point to a real product loop.

The unresolved question is the quality of that loop. Durable consumer RWA would show users returning for cards, retaining or redeeming physical assets, trading because the collectibles have independent demand, and accepting transparent odds with less reliance on constant rewards.

Reflexive gacha churn would look different: volume clustering around incentives, buybacks, social streaks, token unlocks, and attention spikes.

The best answer today sits between those outcomes. Collector Crypt is proof that consumer RWA can generate real usage dashboards, while the mechanism that produced those dashboards looks more like randomized collectibles and less like the institutional RWA model crypto usually sells to investors.

That makes the next data points more important than Hayes’ post or any single CARDS price move.

Watch repeat users, redemption rates, card retention, buyback spend, official confirmation of CARDS buyback mechanics, partner-pack expansion, and CARDS behavior after the current attention cycle. Those signals will show, with better analytics, whether Collector Crypt is building a consumer-ownership market or a gacha flywheel.

Microsoft’s latest crypto malware research points to crypto wallets, one of several places a transaction can fail, as a key practical weakness in self-custody,

A compromised Windows machine can change the address a user copies, expose a seed phrase before a transfer is signed, or send screenshots and wallet context back to an attacker.

In a June 17 Security Blog report, Microsoft said the CryptoBandits malware, detected as “CryptoBandits.A”, had been active since February 2026 and has reached systems through malicious Windows shortcut files on USB storage devices.

The malware also steals wallet secrets, swaps copied addresses, and communicates with command-and-control infrastructure through Tor. Microsoft said it monitors the clipboard roughly every 500 milliseconds and looks for seed phrases, private keys, and wallet addresses.

Hardware wallets, address checks, and seed phrase discipline remain necessary controls. But if the endpoint handling a wallet workflow is compromised, the attacker may see the secret, change the destination, or observe the screen before a user notices anything is wrong.

CryptoSlate has covered adjacent wallet-stealing patterns before, including ClipBanker-style address replacement and Microsoft-linked wallet malware. The new element in Microsoft’s report is the combination of USB propagation, clipboard theft, Tor-routed control, and operational guidance for detecting the behavior.

How CryptoBandits malware turns USB shortcuts into execution

Microsoft said initial access occurs through malicious
.lnk
files, including shortcuts distributed on USB storage devices. In the cases Microsoft analyzed, the shortcut stages a worm component.

The malware then scans the USB drive for common document files, such as
.doc
,
.xlsx
, and
.pdf
, hides the originals, and creates new shortcut files with the same file names.

The result is a familiar trap: a user thinks they are opening a document from removable media, but they are launching the worm payload. That behavior maps to the broader security pattern MITRE ATT&CK describes as replication through removable media, but the crypto-specific consequence is more direct.

A machine used for signing, copying, or checking wallet details becomes part of the attack surface.

Once the malicious shortcut runs, Microsoft said the malware drops obfuscated JavaScript payloads under
C:UsersPublicDocuments
, uses scheduled tasks for persistence, and keeps one task focused on spreading to newly inserted USB drives. Another task runs the stealer activity.

The attack often begins with ordinary file handling. A shared USB drive, a copied file, or an old removable-media habit can place a wallet-handling endpoint into an unsafe state before any wallet software is opened.

That turns routine removable-media use into a USB malware risk for any device that later touches wallet workflows.

However, prevention methods are practical. The risky moment is shortcut execution and the persistence that follows, before a wallet action begins.

For a person or team moving crypto, the device that opens removable media may also be the one that later copies a deposit address, displays a recovery workflow, or prepares a treasury transfer.

For wallet operations, removable media policy becomes part of custody operations. A user or desk that treats a signing workstation as a general-purpose computer inherits the risks of every document workflow associated with that machine.

Devices used for wallet activity need fewer ways to execute untrusted shortcuts, scripts, and payloads.

The attack starts as a Windows shortcut issue and then becomes a wallet-control issue. Once the endpoint is compromised, the user’s normal sequence of copying addresses, checking screens, and preparing transactions gives the malware exactly the material it was built to watch.

How CryptoBandits malware makes the clipboard the transaction path

Microsoft’s analysis shows why a crypto clipper becomes severe when funds are self-custodied. After registering with its command-and-control server, the malware enters a continuous loop that checks the clipboard about every half-second.

It searches for 12- or 24-word BIP39 seed phrases, Bitcoin WIF keys, Ethereum keys, and cryptocurrency addresses.

If it finds a seed phrase or private key, Microsoft said the malware can save it locally and exfiltrate it through Tor. If it sees a copied cryptocurrency address, it can replace that value with an attacker-controlled address.

For several address formats, Microsoft said the malware tries to make the replacement look similar enough to escape casual checks, such as matching the first characters of some Bitcoin, Tron, or Monero addresses, or changing only the last character in some Bech32-style Bitcoin addresses.

Microsoft has treated clipboard address replacement as a wallet-theft problem for years. In a 2022 report on cryware and hot wallets, the company described clipping and switching as techniques that intercept wallet data before a transaction is complete.

The CryptoBandits.A report shows that pattern tied to removable-media spread and Tor-based command traffic.

Official wallet support guidance sharpens the custody angle. MetaMask’s documentation treats seed phrases and private keys as wallet-control secrets and separately tells users to verify recipient addresses before confirming a send.

CryptoBandits.A targets both sides of that workflow: the secret that controls the wallet and the address that receives the funds.

Hardware wallets leave endpoint risk in the workflow

This is a specific endpoint warning about the device around the wallet. Keeping private keys isolated remains one of the strongest defenses against many common wallet attacks.

A weak assumption is that hardware protection covers every step in a transaction. Hardware wallets can protect signing keys, but they cannot make a compromised computer’s clipboard trustworthy. If a user copies an exchange deposit address, a payment address, or a treasury transfer address on an infected machine, the malware may alter the value before the user pastes it.

If the user checks only a few familiar characters, a replacement address designed to look similar may still pass a rushed review.

Seed phrases create a more serious failure mode. A recovery phrase typed into or copied through a compromised Windows machine becomes a remote compromise risk.

Microsoft said the malware can identify BIP39-style phrases and exfiltrate them to the command-and-control server. Once that kind of secret is exposed, the risk extends beyond a single attempted transfer.

For individuals, wallet hygiene is partly device hygiene. For funds managed by teams, custody procedures need to treat endpoint behavior as part of the transaction approval process.

A machine used to inspect balances, prepare transfers, bridge assets, or move funds from an exchange should have a different risk profile from a workstation that also opens unknown removable media.

The useful standard is separation. A device that handles wallet activity should have fewer reasons to run scripts, open shortcuts from USB drives, or copy recovery material through the clipboard.

When a workflow depends on copy-and-paste, the destination shown on the signing device or trusted display carries more weight than the address shown in a browser or chat window.

If a workstation is suspected of exposure, the response changes as well. The exposure can include more than just a bad address in a single pending transaction.

It may include recovery material, private keys, screenshots, and command execution on the same machine. That pushes remediation toward isolating the endpoint, rotating exposed wallet material, and reviewing any transfer prepared on that device.

Detection depends on behavioral signals

Microsoft’s mitigation guidance focuses on behavior. The company recommends disabling AutoRun and AutoPlay for removable media, blocking
.lnk
execution from removable drives through Group Policy where possible, restricting unnecessary use of script hosts such as
wscript.exe
and
cscript.exe
, and reviewing Attack Surface Reduction rules for obfuscated scripts and suspicious child-process chains.

For security teams, the strongest signals are behavioral. Microsoft said defenders should investigate cases where script engines launch tools such as
curl
,
cmd.exe
, PowerShell, or unexpected executables.

It also called out local SOCKS5 proxy activity on
localhost:9050
, clipboard-related behavior, and PowerShell screen-capture activity on devices that handle sensitive financial workflows.

Those signals line up with several standard ATT&CK techniques, including clipboard data collection, proxy-based command-and-control, and scheduled task persistence.

Microsoft Defender also lists detection capability for CryptoBandits, including Trojan:Win32/CryptoBandits.A and related JavaScript detections, along with EDR coverage for suspicious JavaScript processes, curl-based exfiltration, and Task Scheduler activity.

Microsoft’s report leaves victim counts, confirmed theft totals, geographic distribution, and named-actor attribution undisclosed. That limits any claim about the scale of financial harm.

The custody lesson stands on the observed behavior: a wallet workflow can be compromised before a transaction reaches the chain.

The immediate takeaway is that crypto users and operators should treat endpoints as part of the wallet stack. USB controls, script restrictions, address verification, and clipboard discipline are part of self-custody security.

They are the path a transaction takes before it reaches the chain.

DefiLlama shows Pump.fun generated $108.3 million in gross revenue during the first quarter and $69.2 million in the second quarter to date, marking a 36.1% decline from the prior quarter’s pace.

The broader Pump stack, which includes PumpSwap and Terminal alongside Pump.fun, shows Q2-to-date gross protocol revenue of $179.3 million, 37.5% below the first quarter’s $287.1 million, while earnings fell from $120.9 million to $79.1 million over the same period.

Pump.fun’s scale ranks among the most profitable consumer applications ever built on Solana. Its cumulative revenue exceeds $1 billion, and the broader Pump stack has generated $1.18 billion since launch.

Its bonding-curve mechanism, which bootstraps initial liquidity for new token issuances and collects fees on trades, graduations, and Mayhem-mode activity, still processes hundreds of millions in DEX volume monthly.

The quarterly comparison shows a deceleration, with cumulative revenue and volume reflecting one of crypto’s most productive consumer loops.

The revenue conversation on Solana has widened as Collector Crypt’s quarterly numbers run in the opposite direction.

A grouped bar chart showing pump.fun and the broader Pump stack posting Q2 revenue declines while Collector Crypt’s Q2 gross revenue rose 108.8%.

A different curve

Collector Crypt is a Solana protocol built around tokenized physical trading cards: users buy randomized digital packs tied to real, graded cards, trade tokenized cards on-chain, sell them back through the platform, or redeem the physical versions.

DefiLlama describes it as a protocol to sell RWA Pokémon cards on Solana, with revenue from gacha pack sales, marketplace fees, and royalties, net of gacha pack buybacks.

Collector Crypt opened over 215,000 tokenized TCG packs in a single week and crossed $50 million in cumulative revenue, with more than 30% of users redeeming physical cards.

DefiLlama shows Collector Crypt generated $12.3 million in the first quarter and $25.8 million in the second quarter to date, a 108.8% acceleration.

Its 7-day revenue of $5.1 million represents about 38% of its nearly $13.5 million 30-day total, a sharper recent concentration than Pump.fun’s 22.8% ratio.

Collector Crypt’s last 30 days also account for 88.3% of its approximately $123.5 million in cumulative DEX volume, compared with 1.4% for Pump.fun, which reflects a protocol whose measurable activity is recent and compressing upward rather than spread across years of cumulative issuance.

Collector Crypt’s 2026 revenue of $38.1 million is about 21.5% of Pump.fun’s $177.5 million, and 8.2% of the broader Pump stack’s $466.5 million.

The data show that a protocol generates its strongest activity precisely as the larger platform decelerates.

CARDS as the market’s attention proxy

CARDS, Collector Crypt’s token, has moved in tandem with the protocol’s revenue acceleration.
CoinGecko shows the token around $0.259, up 47% over seven days, with approximately $10.4 million in 24-hour trading volume, a market cap of around $66.83 million, and an all-time high of $0.38.

CARDS has become the liquid instrument traders use to express a view on Collector Crypt’s acceleration, but token holders should not assume revenue capture from that price action.

DefiLlama currently lists Collector Crypt holders’ revenue as zero and notes that tracking is disabled until the protocol’s buyback hub wallet receives official confirmation.

The broader tokenized trading card market provides context for why Collector Crypt’s activity curve looks the way it does.

The top seven tokenized trading-card platforms generated $230 million in gacha sales in May 2026, up sevenfold year over year, with Solana accounting for 64% of that volume.

That expansion points to a specific aspect of what Solana’s consumer app economy can now monetize.

Pump.fun’s model depends on a speculative issuance loop: new tokens launch, trade on bonding curves, graduate to open markets, and generate fees at each stage.

Collector Crypt’s model depends on a consumer loop different from Pump.fun’s, based on randomized pack openings tied to recognizable physical collectibles, on-chain secondary trading, and real-world redemption.

Both loops generate fees, volume, and token-market activity, but they draw on different user motivations and different definitions of what makes an on-chain asset worth holding.

Where the numbers go next

If Collector Crypt sustains its current revenue pace and the broader tokenized trading-card category continues to expand, the protocol becomes a durable fixture in Solana’s app-revenue rankings.

CARDS continues to serve as the liquid proxy for that acceleration, gacha pack demand remains elevated, and the 30-day revenue gap between Collector Crypt and Pump.fun narrows further.

The sevenfold year-over-year figure for the broader TCG gacha category supports this trajectory if user demand holds.

If gacha demand fades, CARDS volume drops, or multiple jurisdictions apply loot-box frameworks to scrutinize randomized-pack mechanics, Collector Crypt’s recent concentration of activity becomes a liability rather than proof of acceleration.

The protocol’s cumulative revenue base of $58.4 million is thin relative to Pump.fun’s $1 billion, which means a demand pullback would show up quickly in the weekly ratios that currently make Collector Crypt’s trajectory legible.

Scenario

What happens

What to watch

Market meaning

Base case: broader attention, no replacement

Pump remains the larger revenue engine while Collector Crypt stays visible in app-revenue rankings

Pump 30d revenue stabilizes; Collector Crypt keeps elevated 7d/30d ratio

Solana consumer revenue diversifies beyond memecoin launches

Collector Crypt momentum holds

Gacha demand remains elevated, CARDS keeps acting as the liquid attention proxy, and 30d revenue gap narrows

Pack openings, 30d revenue, CARDS volume, redemption activity

Tokenized collectibles become a durable Solana consumer category

Pump reaccelerates

Memecoin issuance rebounds and PumpSwap/Terminal offset pump.fun cooling

Pump stack 7d revenue and DEX volume rebound

The divergence becomes a temporary momentum story

Collector Crypt cools

Gacha demand fades, CARDS volume drops, or loot-box scrutiny increases

Falling 7d/30d ratio, weaker pack demand, lower token volume

Recent concentration becomes a risk, not proof of durability

Collector Crypt is building on the premise that users will pay for, trade, and return digital assets anchored to physical objects they recognize.

The second-quarter data show that this model and Pump.fun’s can both generate real fees on the same chain at the same time, and that Solana’s consumer revenue base is wider than it was at the start of the year.

Cardano’s governance system is facing two deadlines that belong in the same conversation.

JPG Store, a prominent Cardano NFT marketplace whose product page calls it the #1 Cardano NFT marketplace, began a ‘Restriction Mode’ on April 23 and scheduled its ‘Complete Shutdown for May 23′.

The shutdown gives users immediate work to do. The shutdown FAQ tells users to remove listings, cancel offers, and settle or cancel loans before the final date. A separate social-login wallet notice tells users to transfer NFTs, tokens, and ADA to a self-custody Cardano wallet before access through those wallets ends.

At the same time, Cardano voters are weighing Input Output’s 2026 treasury slate, where Pogun asks for ₳12.29 million to build a Bitcoin liquidity and credit engine. The process is demanding by design: treasury withdrawals require delegated representative approval from 67% of active voting stake, plus Constitutional Committee approval.

Put together, those deadlines turn Cardano’s funding priorities into a live test against the stress points users can see.

The evidence supports an application-level pressure point, while broader chain-health claims would need separate support. JPG Store attributed the decision to operating sustainability, and the closure materials do not establish chain-wide failure.

That distinction is important for the ongoing treasury debate. Cardano can still pursue an ambitious Bitcoin DeFi strategy, but the case for funding it now has to sit beside a visible consumer product telling users to unwind positions and move assets.

A consumer deadline now sits beside the vote

Its ‘Restriction Mode’ puts JPG Store into an immediate wind-down process. During that phase, core actions such as listings, offers, sales, and rentals are restricted, while users can still remove active orders and manage certain existing positions before ‘Complete Shutdown’ on May 23.

That creates a migration problem for users and a visible comparison point for builders watching where Cardano treasury capital may go next.

Cardano’s funding system is debating new infrastructure while one of its most recognizable consumer surfaces is asking people to move assets before it shuts down for good.

JPG Store winding down shows that a product with real visibility in Cardano’s NFT market could not continue operating under its current model. Other parts of the ecosystem are still building, voting, and shipping, but the shutdown still adds pressure to the allocation question.

If treasury allocations are contested and voter approval is difficult to secure, the debate becomes a test of whether Bitcoin DeFi is the best near-term answer to the stress points users see.

A marketplace shutdown driven by sustainability pressure and a treasury request for new liquidity infrastructure can both be rational responses to the same ecosystem issues. Together, they set a clearer test: Cardano has to show that new funding can translate into applications, users, and liquidity, with the consumer layer as the proof point.

The closure also changes how the vote will be judged. A consumer deadline gives voters and builders a visible benchmark for any treasury ask.

Funding new infrastructure can still be rational, but the burden is higher when existing user surfaces are asking people to move assets and unwind positions.

The vote tests Cardano’s allocation logic

Input Output’s 2026 treasury package includes nine proposals. Pogun is the Bitcoin DeFi plank in that set, and its listed work includes a non-margin credit market, a yield application, institutional access, and a BitVM-powered trust-minimized bridge through 2026.

In plain English, the proposal aims to make Bitcoin useful within Cardano’s DeFi stack. That is a coherent strategic target because it aims at liquidity alongside application growth.

The harder challenge is whether that target addresses the current weakness visible in Cardano’s consumer and DeFi activity.

The live treasury withdrawal process listed Pogun as expiring May 24, with 1.04% DRep support toward the 67% threshold as of 09:30 UTC on April 24.

That can change quickly, but it captures the state of the process at a useful moment: the proposal is live, the threshold is high, and voter conviction still has to be built.

The broader request was already on the table. Input Output’s teams were seeking almost $50 million for Bitcoin DeFi and Vision 2030, with the 2026 ask below the prior year’s approved level.

JPG Store’s closure adds pressure around how that funding case should be judged.

The Bitcoin-liquidity direction also predates Pogun. Cardano had already approved an Orion Fund first tranche tied to 50 million ADA, a $15 million first deployment, and an $80 million target.

Pogun, therefore, sits within a broader effort to connect Cardano with Bitcoin liquidity, a strategy that now has multiple pieces, from Orion to Pogun, while the consumer-product side has just set a new deadline.

The funding case has to show that those pieces connect, because a liquidity engine only strengthens the ecosystem if it eventually produces usable markets, credible demand, and applications that people return to.

The next test is delivery and usage

The market backdrop shows why Bitcoin DeFi is tempting. The aggregate crypto market sits at around $2.6 trillion, with BTC dominance near 60.1%.

CryptoSlate’s Cardano price data show ADA trading near $0.25 with a market cap of around $9 billion, while BTC trades near $77,872 with a $1.56 trillion market cap.

Those figures show the scale mismatch Cardano is trying to solve. Bitcoin liquidity is enormous, and Cardano’s own asset value remains large enough to make light application usage look like an execution challenge.

Cardano’s activity metrics give the other side of the frame. DefiLlama shows about $134.57 million in DeFi TVL, $49.08 million in stablecoins, $556,520 in 24-hour DEX volume, and $3,575 in 24-hour NFT volume.

The shape is more important than the exact numbers. Cardano’s market value is large, while measured DeFi and NFT activity remain comparatively light.

That makes the treasury question harder and more useful. A Bitcoin liquidity push could address one clear constraint by bringing a deeper asset pool into Cardano’s DeFi system.

At the same time, a consumer NFT marketplace shutdown asks whether the ecosystem also needs stronger native demand, better product economics, or funding paths that sustain applications users already recognize.

Cardano’s funding system was already in transition before this week. Project Catalyst had distributed more than $150 million, while the next rounds were paused as stewardship moved from Input Output to the Cardano Foundation.

That context places the current debate inside a broader governance reset and the strongest conclusion is conditional. JPG Store’s closure leaves Cardano’s Bitcoin DeFi strategy alive, but harder to judge by itself.

If Pogun and related liquidity work win support, ship on schedule, and create measurable activity, the treasury push can be understood as an attempt to connect Cardano to a larger pool of capital.

In that version, consumer consolidation and Bitcoin DeFi expansion can coexist because the chain is trying to build new demand channels while some unsustainable products wind down.

If voting remains thin, activity metrics stay weak, or more consumer surfaces contract, the same proposal will face a tougher interpretation.

It will resemble a bet that a new liquidity narrative can repair problems visible in the existing application layer.

The next thresholds are concrete. JPG Store’s final shutdown date is May 23. Pogun’s listed treasury vote window expires May 24.

After that, the useful signals move from governance approval to delivery, usage, and liquidity. The useful question is whether the treasury process can direct capital toward constraints that users and builders can actually feel.

Metaverse land never recovered. The numbers now show how far it fell

The biggest metaverse land deals of the 2021 and 2022 boom now map to four- and five-digit values when priced against current collection floors, rather than the six- and seven-figure valuations buyers once paid.

The decline runs through the entire metaverse land trade. A CoinGecko study found that average metaverse land prices were already down 72% from their highs by June 2024, with Sandbox off 95%, Decentraland off 89%, and Otherdeed for Otherside off 85% from peak-cycle average floor levels.

The famous parcels that once stood in for scarcity and status now read like artifacts from a pricing regime that assumed virtual neighborhoods would become high-traffic digital cities.

The broader NFT market also failed to recover its old price structure. DappRadar said NFT trading reached $25.8 billion in 2021, and its January 2022 report said that month alone hit a record $16 billion in sales before wash-trading distortions were stripped out. Later data shows a market that kept moving while getting cheaper.

DappRadar’s Q2 2025 report said NFT trading volume fell 45% quarter over quarter to $867 million even as sales rose 78% to 14.9 million.

In Q3 2025, the same tracker said the market logged $1.6 billion in trading volume across 18.1 million sales. Trading activity persisted, while the premium attached to many collections collapsed.

The metaverse land unwind is best understood as a repricing because buyers treated digital land as if it would become a durable asset, with brands, traffic, and resale scarcity. The market now prices much of it as illiquid optionality.

The splashy land deals now look like relics

The clearest case studies are the deals that once stood in for the entire boom. In December 2021, a 3×3 Snoopverse estate next to Snoop Dogg’s property in The Sandbox sold for about $450,000, or about 71,000 SAND. That nine-parcel estate now screens at about $1,025 on a floor-equivalent basis. That is a drawdown of about 99.8% from the reported sale price.

The Decentraland Fashion District deal points the same way. Metaverse Group bought a 116-parcel estate in November 2021 for about $2.4 million. That estate is now not worth materially more than $8,929 on a floor-equivalent basis, down about 99.6% from the original purchase price.

In June 2021, Republic Realm bought 259 parcels for about $913,228. At the same current floor-equivalent value, that estate screens at about $19,935, down about 97.8%.

The Sandbox “city” deal is another clean marker because of its scale. Republic Realm’s 24×24 Sandbox estate, or 576 parcels, was purchased for $4.3 million in late 2021. Marked to the current floor-equivalent price, that estate screens at about $65,583, down about 98.5%.

Otherside’s trophy sales show the same baseline collapse. A May 2022 DappRadar report said Otherdeed #24 sold for 333 ETH, or close to $1 million, while the floor now sits around $167.

Even so, against the current Otherdeed floor, the category baseline has fallen so far that these headline purchases now imply floor-equivalent markdowns approaching 100%.

Floor-equivalent pricing is the fairest way to present these comparisons. It shows what happened to the market’s baseline. The market that once paid a premium for celebrity adjacency, branded districts, and virtual location now assigns only a thin residual value to the category as a whole.

NFTs kept trading, but the pricing model broke

The land collapse sits inside a broader NFT reset. The first quarter of 2022 was the strongest in NFT history at $12.46 billion in trading volume. By June 2022, monthly trading had fallen below $1 billion for the first time in a year. However, the bust did not totally erase the market.

DappRadar’s 2024 overview report said NFT trading volume fell 19% year over year in 2024 and sales fell 18%, making 2024 one of the weakest years since 2020. Then 2025 showed a split market, lower dollar volume, higher unit activity, and more trading in cheaper assets.

That split is visible in the quarterly numbers. In Q2 2025, DappRadar said volume fell to $867 million while sales rose to 14.9 million. In Q3 2025, DappRadar’s tracker said the market posted $1.6 billion in volume and 18.1 million sales.

October 2025 added another signal. DappRadar said the market reached $546 million in monthly volume and 10.1 million sales, the highest monthly sales count of the year. Traders were still buying NFTs. They were spending far less per item.

A blue-chip proxy shows how severe the repricing was outside land. CoinGecko’s BAYC page shows Bored Ape Yacht Club at about 5.22 ETH, or about $11,410, versus an all-time high floor of 153.7 ETH, or about $420,430. That leaves BAYC down about 96.6% in ETH terms and 97.3% in dollar terms. Even one of the category’s most recognizable collections never came close to reclaiming its old clearing level.

The financing layer also broke. DappRadar’s NFT lending data said lending volume fell 97% from its January 2024 peak of nearly $1 billion to just over $50 million in May 2025. Borrowers were down 90%, lenders were down 78%, and average loan sizes shrank from $22,000 at the 2022 peak to about $4,000.

NFT lending helped support high-end prices during the boom. Once traders could no longer borrow against expensive JPEGs and land deeds at scale, premium valuations lost another key support.

The broad NFT market kept operating, though its price ladder dropped sharply. Land was one of the boom’s purest narrative trades. It depended on the belief that digital location itself would become a durable asset class.

Other parts of the NFT market found cheaper pockets of demand. Land rarely did.

The market outlook is narrower, cheaper, and less forgiving

The current market does show signs of life. CoinGecko collection pages for Sandbox, Decentraland, Otherside, and Voxels show 60-day gains of 153.9%, 95.5%, 12.8%, and 41.8%, respectively.

Yet, those rebounds start from deeply depressed levels and leave the larger picture unchanged. The case studies still sit 98% to nearly 100% below their boom-era valuations on a floor-equivalent basis. That is what happens when a market loses both leverage and belief.

The category is also competing in a different NFT market than the one that existed in late 2021. In 2025, RWA NFTs grew 29% in volume and became the second-largest NFT category by volume during the quarter. Gaming-linked assets also gained ground.

Still, that shift does not prove metaverse land can recover soon. Traders moved on to RWAs when the old premise stopped working. They moved toward categories that looked more transactional, more utility-linked, or simply cheaper to own.

Corporate signals moved in the same direction. Meta changed its name in 2021 to emphasize the metaverse, and the company’s announcement now reads like a document from another market cycle.

Meta’s 2025 earnings filing said Reality Labs lost $19.2 billion in 2025 after years of multibillion-dollar losses. Virtual worlds remain active, though under a very different cost and growth calculus than the one that drove the land boom.

The market now trades digital assets with much lower ticket sizes, weaker financing, and a preference for narrower use cases. Metaverse land can still rally in short bursts, especially when crypto sentiment turns risk-on.

The last 60 days show that. The market still sits far below the assumptions embedded in the 2021 and 2022 trophy sales.

For land values to behave like property again, platforms would need more than token rebounds. Users who show up regularly, brands that stay, and a reason for virtual location to generate durable economic value instead of narrative premium are the only avenues to recovery.

NFT Paris was supposed to be the kind of week people plan their year around.

You book the ticket, you text the group chat, you lock in the flights before prices jump, you tell yourself the hotel bill is “work”, you start quietly hoping the market gives you a reason to feel optimistic again.

Then, with about a month to go, the organisers pulled the plug.

On the official site, NFT Paris and RWA Paris 2026 are now marked as cancelled. The statement is blunt, almost tired. “The market collapse hit us hard,” the team wrote, adding that after “drastic cost cuts” and months of trying, they couldn’t make it work this year.

They say all tickets will be refunded within 15 days. They also apologise to people who already booked flights and hotels, and they end with a message to their own staff, a public thank you, and a quiet attempt to help them land on their feet.

If you’ve been around crypto long enough, you’ve seen cancellations before. Events live and die on hype cycles. When the money is flowing, everyone wants a stage. When the money dries up, a conference is one of the first line items to get chopped.

Still, this one lands differently, because it sits on top of another reality that is getting harder to ignore in France, the rise in crypto-linked kidnappings, home invasions, and extortion attempts.

NFT Paris says it’s a market story. A lot of people in the community, especially those who have been reading the police blotter with fresh eyes, think it’s also a safety story, or at least safety is part of the background radiation now, the kind of thing that quietly changes behaviour, budgets, and what “going to an event” actually feels like.

You can hold both ideas in your head at the same time.

The official reason is money, and the numbers have been ugly

NFT Paris doesn’t dress this up. It calls it a market collapse, it says the cuts weren’t enough, and it ends the chapter.

The broader NFT market context also points in the same direction. NFT trading never really returned to the cultural dominance of 2021, and the last stretch of 2025 was particularly soft. Data showing a slump in monthly sales, including a weak November figure in late 2025, which matters because events depend on sponsor confidence and a sense that people will show up ready to spend, not just ready to network.

You can feel this in the way crypto marketing has changed. The loud era of “buy a booth, throw a party, hire a DJ, print 10,000 hoodies” has been replaced by a colder question, what is the return, who are we actually reaching, and can we justify this to a finance team that no longer believes in vibes.

In that environment, a big public event becomes a fragile machine. If ticket sales come in late, if a few sponsors hesitate, if venue costs are locked in, the margin for error disappears.

Then there is the part nobody likes talking about, because it is grim

Across France, over the past year, there has been a string of cases that share a pattern, someone is perceived to have crypto, or to be connected to someone with crypto, and the crime is physical.

It’s not one incident but a sequence that stretches from the edges of the country back into Paris, and out again.

On Jan 21, 2025, Ledger co-founder David Balland and his partner were kidnapped near Vierzon, with a ransom demand in crypto, Reuters reported on the case, and it drew wider coverage in outlets like the FT.

A few days later, Jan 24, 2025, a crypto professional was kidnapped and held near Troyes, with arrests reported by LeParisien.

By May, the cases had moved into the city.

On May 13, 2025, there was an attempted kidnapping in Paris’ 11th arrondissement, targeting the pregnant daughter of Paymium CEO Pierre Noizat, foiled in the street, covered by LeMonde.

There are more, including disrupted plots and assaults tied to crypto holdings, in Normandy, near Nantes, in Essonne, and beyond, reported by outlets like RFI, Europe1, and French regional press.

By late 2025 and early 2026, the drumbeat kept going, including cases in Val-d’Oise and Charente-Maritime, with reporting from LeDauphiné.

This matters because conferences are made of humans. Humans who wear lanyards with their names on them. Humans who post photos of where they are. Humans who meet strangers for “a quick coffee,” then walk back to hotels with expensive laptops, sometimes with big public personas attached to their wallets.

Even if you never experience a crime personally, the atmosphere changes when enough people start swapping stories, and when “keep a low profile” becomes standard advice.

There’s also the psychological shift. In the early NFT boom, the danger was financial, you might get rugged, you might overpay for a JPEG, you might wake up to a floor price collapse. Over the past year, the fear has started to look more physical, and that kind of fear travels fast through a community.

So was NFT Paris cancelled because of safety, or because of the market?

The honest answer is that the organisers said market, and that is the only on-the-record reason we have from them.

But that doesn’t mean safety is irrelevant. It can be a silent cost. It can be a constraint that makes everything harder.

Security is expensive. Insurance is expensive. High profile speakers become harder to lock in when they are thinking about their families, not their flight connections. Sponsors have to weigh brand exposure against risk. Attendees have to decide whether they want to be visible at all, especially the kind of visibility that comes with VIP lounges, afterparties, and public appearances.

A market downturn already reduces the money available for events. A safety overhang can shrink the pool of people willing to participate publicly. Those two pressures can meet in the middle, and that is where an event breaks.

You can see the tension in one simple detail from the NFT Paris statement. The team specifically apologises to people who had already booked flights and hotels, it’s a very human line, it implies they know how many people had committed real money to being there. See the apology.

If you’re one of those people, your frustration isn’t theoretical. It’s a non-refundable booking. It’s time off work. It’s childcare. It’s the emotional cost of planning around something that disappears.

Paris is still hosting crypto events, which adds another layer

As of press time, Paris Blockchain Week is still selling tickets for April 15 to 16, 2026, on its official tickets page.

That matters because it suggests Paris is not closed for business. The city remains a magnet for institutional finance, regulators, and the broader “tokenization” narrative, even while an NFT-focused flagship event couldn’t make it to the starting line.

That split is telling.

NFTs are the retail facing corner of crypto culture. They live on sentiment and attention. When the market is quiet, the marketing budgets get cut first, and the community energy gets harder to manufacture.

Tokenization, RWAs, the institutional track, those stories have a different funding base, and a different audience. Even the forecasts are framed in years, not in weeks. McKinsey, for example, estimates tokenized financial assets could reach around $2 trillion by 2030, with a range of $1 trillion to $4 trillion, in a report on tokenization.

Whether those numbers land or not, the point is that institutions plan in long arcs, and conferences that cater to them can survive a cycle that wipes out the more culture-driven events.

NFT Paris tried to bridge those worlds by pairing with RWA Paris. The fact that both are cancelled in the same announcement feels like a signal that simply adding “RWA” to the masthead isn’t enough to fix the underlying event economics, especially when the community itself is splitting into different tribes, builders, traders, artists, compliance, and capital.

Community is learning what risk really means

There’s a moment in every crypto cycle where the story stops being about charts and starts being about people.

You can hear it in the NFT Paris statement, the line about their team, the way they say the staff “deserved a better outcome,” the way they offer to connect them with jobs.

You can hear it in the kidnapping reporting, because those stories are not about wallets, they’re about parents, partners, children, and the simple terror of being targeted in your own home, or in the street outside it.

That’s why the safety question keeps coming up, even when the official reason is market collapse. It’s because a conference is one of the most public things a community does. It’s the opposite of operational security. It’s a celebration of being seen.

When the mood shifts from “be seen” to “be careful,” the whole culture changes.

NFT Paris built something real, tens of thousands of attendees over four editions, a place where internet-native industries could meet in person, and turn usernames into handshakes. Now that chapter ends, and the industry has to sit with what it says about the moment we are in.

A soft market can kill an event quickly.

A fearful market can change what it means to show up at all.

Ethereum is marking its 10th anniversary with a symbolic gesture and a technical leap forward for the blockchain network.

Ethereum Toch NFT

On July 20, the network revealed that it launched a ceremonial “Torch” NFT to celebrate the people and principles that have shaped its decentralized journey since July 30, 2015.

According to Ethereum’s website:

“Like a ceremonial flame that travels from community to community, the Ethereum Torch will journey across the global Ethereum ecosystem. This special NFT will be passed from wallet to wallet among carefully selected community members, developers, and builders who have shaped Ethereum’s story over the past 10 years.”

The first torchbearer was Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin, who held it for 24 hours before passing it on to Taiwan’s Digital Minister Audrey Tang. Tang will also keep the Torch for 24 hours before transferring it to another influential figure in the Ethereum community.

This process will continue until July 30, when the NFT will “burn” and unlock a commemorative token that anyone can freely mint.

Fusaka hard fork

While Ethereum honors its past, the network developers are also preparing for the next significant protocol upgrade, Fusaka, which will launch in November 2025.

The update follows the recent Pectra fork and includes several improvements to boost scalability and network robustness.

On July 17, Tim Beiko of the Ethereum Foundation confirmed that Devnet-3 for Fusaka will launch on July 23.

The upgrade will test around 11 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs). However, one notable proposal, EIP-7907, aimed to increase the maximum smart contract size, was dropped after pushback from core development teams.

Beiko further stressed that Fusaka targets mainnet activation between Nov. 5 and 12.

He pointed out that the upgrade roadmap includes two successful testnets, early bug bounty programs, and a stress test via the Holesky testnet.

However, concerns remain around testnet stability and audit readiness.

The Holesky upgrade is expected to be a key indicator of the network’s readiness for full deployment. It will offer developers valuable insight without risking major user disruption.

Animoca Brands co-founder and executive chair Yat Siu believes that a resurgence in the NFT sector could push Ethereum to all-time highs, surpassing its previous peak during the 2021 bull run.

In a July 21 post on X, Siu highlighted the historical relationship between Ethereum’s price and NFT market activity. He noted that Ethereum last hit its all-time high of around $4,800 in November 2021, the peak of the NFT boom.

Since then, both Ethereum and the broader NFT sector have faced a prolonged downturn.

However, signs of a revival are emerging, with blue-chip NFT collections like CryptoPunks recently seeing double-digit floor price gains. The total NFT market capitalization has surpassed $10 billion and is steadily approaching its 2021 high of $15.6 billion.

This sector uptrend has also coincided with Ethereum crossing the $3,800 mark for the first time since December 2024.

NFTs as cultural items

Considering this, Siu believes that ETH’s price could rise if the community taps into NFTs as cultural items to be embraced rather than viewed solely as financial instruments.

He argued that NFTs embody identity, social status, and community belonging, which drive real economic value.

Siu acknowledged that NFT trading has become increasingly fragmented across different blockchains. According to him, Ethereum’s dominance in the sector has dipped, now accounting for less than half of all NFT trading volume when excluding Layer 2 networks.

Despite the fragmentation, Siu sees Ethereum’s cultural influence as a long-term advantage. He compared the cultural role of NFTs to luxury brands such as Hermès and Rolex, which are valued for symbolism rather than utility.

He stated:

“You don’t buy a Birkin bag to put stuff in it just as much as you don’t buy a Rolex to tell the time. NFTs represent the cultural, social and symbolic power of a community.”

He also emphasized ETH’s unique role as a spending token, unlike Bitcoin, which he described as rooted in a “HODL” culture. According to him:

“ETH is a utility token and holding it is for the opportunity to engage in something important i.e to spend such as in DeFi, some token and yes also NFTs. This is also the reason why ETH rising is bullish on-chain because we spend unlike BTC users whose culture is infinite HODL.”

Considering this, he urged Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin to embrace NFTs as financial assets and pillars of Ethereum’s cultural economy.

He stressed:

“NFTs are the backbone of the Ethereum cultural economy much more than just financial, it’s about culture, status and ultimately belonging.”

Arthur Hayes, Chief Investment Officer at Maelstrom and former BitMEX CEO, has shared a highly optimistic outlook for Ethereum (ETH), predicting that the digital asset could reach a new all-time high of $10,000 by the end of the year.

In a July 23 blog post, Hayes described ETH as “the most hated large-cap crypto,” likening its current sentiment to Solana following FTX’s collapse in 2022 before its meteoric rise from $7 to $280.

Hayes believes momentum is now shifting. He points to Ethereum’s growing use in corporate treasury strategies and support from major Western institutional players, including Fundstrat’s Tom Lee, as signs of an impending rally.

He suggested that mounting institutional confidence could trigger a market breakout, saying investors should be proactive.

According to him:

“Buy first, ask questions later.”

CryptoPunks could outshine ETH

While bullish on Ethereum, Hayes also argued that CryptoPunks NFTs could outperform ETH in terms of dollar value.

He reasoned that Ethereum holders will likely channel their profits into NFTs as status symbols, reflecting broader societal behaviors around wealth and prestige.

Hayes questioned:

“[NFTs are] an internet status game. The whole world economy outside of food and energy production is a giant status game, why would the internet society be any different?”

This perspective echoes comments from Yat Siu, chairman of Animoca Brands, who compares NFTs to luxury items like Rolex watches or Birkin bags. According to Siu, people purchase these items mainly due to their cultural symbols of identity and belonging rather than their functionality.

CryptoPunks, launched in 2017 as one of the first NFT projects on Ethereum, have gained legendary status in the digital art world.

At the peak of the market in 2021, the collection’s floor price was worth an average of 125 ETH, but its value fell significantly during the market winter to a low of 21 ETH.

However, with the NFT space enjoying some form of renaissance lately, CryptoPunks’ value has surged in the past week by over 20% to 48 ETH, which equates to $177,000.

PENGU has climbed 151% in July, a rally driven by accumulation from public figures and whales, community momentum, viral marketing, and expanding liquidity.

The token is currently trading at $0.036955, with a 1.6% daily correction as of press time.

Nicolai Søndergaard, a research analyst at Nansen, stated that public figures have accumulated over the past 90 days and now hold a combined 315 million PENGU, while whale balances have increased by about 1% to 2.54 billion PENGU.

Yet, he noted that smart money has been taking profits, although this cohort still holds 109 million PENGU.

Because the pace of accumulation exceeded the distribution, selling pressure did not derail the rally.

Søndergaard added that a broader pickup in altcoin interest and memecoin activity likely provided a tailwind, with PENGU benefiting from its existing mindshare through physical products and memes.

Community, liquidity, and a cultural niche

Shawn Young, chief analyst at MEXC Research, framed the move in terms of market structure and culture.

He argued that community momentum, viral marketing, and a rising appetite for meme assets in bullish phases supported the advance.

Young added that PENGU taps into a cultural niche that resonates with Gen Z and crypto-native users, utilizing humor and digital identity as core value propositions.

From a trading perspective, greater on-chain activity and deeper liquidity on DEXs and centralized venues have lowered frictions for retail entry and speculation, thereby amplifying flows.

He said PENGU’s relatively low market cap and high volatility continue to attract short‑term traders chasing outsized returns, further reinforcing momentum.

Convering theses

Both analysts point to people and pipes, such as influential holders and community figures accumulating supply, and liquidity/infrastructure that make it easy for retail and speculators to participate.

They also agree that narrative and mindshare matter. Søndergaardr highlighted the “physical product and memes” areas that PENGU taps, while Young noted the “cultural niche and digital identity.”

The analysts pointed out that these intangibles can become hard catalysts when they mobilize capital and attention.

What to watch

Young cautioned that the sustainability of meme‑driven tokens remains untested. Momentum can reverse quickly if narratives fade, liquidity thins, or large holders rotate out.

Søndergaard’s data likewise show that profit‑taking is active, even if it has been offset so far by accumulation.

Going forward, the trajectory of PENGU will likely hinge on whether whale and public‑figure accumulation persists, liquidity continues to expand across venues, and the project sustains its cultural relevance.
